Interview with ACCA student Gabriela Simion, UK
Thank you for taking the time to speak to us Gabriela, and congratulations on passing your P2 paper last week. Could you tell us about your professional background, and the reasons why you are studying ACCA?
I currently work as an accountant for Liverpool Victoria, managing budgeting and reports. In Romania, I had a bookkeeping role at a life insurance company and managed the reconciliation of the underwriting system and finance system. I am studying ACCA because I want a new accounting role in London. Although I possess undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in finance, I believe that the ACCA qualification is a big step toward fulfilling my future ambitions.
How do you feel about the level of support you’ve received during your studies so far?
I’ve been very happy. Originally I was studying with another online education provider through my workplace, but I was so impressed with InterActive that I recently asked for all my studies to be put through you!
Could you tell us about some of the advantages of an online study programme? Have you faced any challenges?
I find it so much easier studying online, and it is especially useful because I don’t get much time off, so to travel to a school classroom after work wouldn’t be feasible for me. Studying online with InterActive works around my schedule and needs, so this arrangement has been so much better for me. Overall, I haven’t seen any downsides to this method of studying, it has been really great. In fact, it has provided me extra benefits such as being able to listen to videos on my lunch break!
Do you have any study tips for other students who are studying ACCA online right now?
I always found it useful to ask many questions. Even if you think it is a stupid question, just ask. Make full use of the online features, like the forums, and talk to your fellow students. Also, don’t be afraid to email your tutor!
And how do you intend to put your professional qualifications to use?
I would really like to use the skills I’ve learned from the ACCA course at a large accounting firm in a group accountant role. My long term aspiration is to work for one of the Big Four companies, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, or KPMG.
