Specialisation module 1: Fundamentals of Islamic Banking and Finance
Islamic finance spreads beyond Muslim countries, as seen in Europe where it has already made considerable headway in the UK, Germany and Switzerland. As a result of these developments, Islamic financial institutions have developed a vast range of products designed to serve the growing market. Several "Islamic equity" investment funds have also been launched, with both FTSE and Dow Jones providing indices to monitor this growing market. Presently, it is estimated that Islamic banks and financial institutions manage some US$200-300 billion of funds all over the world (Standard & Poors Islamic Finance Outlook, 2006).

Specialisation module 2: Islamic Portfolio Management
This elective builds on the techniques of successful portfolio selection, to address both the theory and practice of portfolio management with an emphasis on the Islamic world. The theoretical part of this subject will focus on the construction of an investment portfolio, and how to adjust its composition through time. It will also consider the use of derivatives in managing risks. The practical part will provide you with hands-on experience of actually constructing and managing a portfolio.

- Demonstrate deep and systemic knowledge in the sphere of Islamic portfolio investment.
